MANILA – Senator Nancy Binay pledged to maintain Makati's acclaimed social services, and prioritize education to address the current educational challenges as she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Tuesday for mayor of the city.
In an interview, Binay said she intends to leverage her Senate experience to enhance governance in Makati.
"Nais po nating ipadama sa ating mga kababayan ang pusong may pagkalinga. Ito rin po siguro ang gusto nating maging direksyon ng ating lungsod , at makilala ang atin pong mga lingkod-bayan na buong pusong kumakalinga at nagbibigay serbisyo sa bawat mamamayan ng Makati (We want to make our citizens feel a heart that cares. This is also the direction that we want for our city, and for our civil servants to be known as someone who wholeheartedly care and provide services to every citizen of Makati)," she said.
"Asahan po ninyo na tuloy-tuloy at mas palalawakin, at lalo pa po nating paiigtingin ang ‘Alagang at Serbisyong Binay’ na sinimulan po ng aking amang si former vice president Jejomar Binay (Expect the Binay brand of care and service, that was started by my father, former vice president Jejomar Binay, to be continued and expanded)," she said.
Binay, the official candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), filed her COC with actor and former Makati congressman Monsour del Rosario as her running mate, along with the candidates for councilors for 1st and 2nd districts.
She will be running against his brother-in-law, Rep. Luis Campos, the husband of her sister Abby who is gunning for a Senate post.
For Nancy, she does not see Abby as her opponent, pointing out that they are still family.
“Hindi ko kalaban ang kapatid ko, walang Abby Binay sa balota so hindi kami magkaaway (I am not against my sister, there is no Abby Binay on the ballot so we are not enemies)," she told reporters.
Abby earlier said she is "hoping and praying" that Nancy will not pursue the mayoralty. (PNA)
