ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said he is still consulting with his team amid the political developments in Iloilo City, but emphasized the welfare of Ilonggos is a priority.

The mayor made the pronouncement on Tuesday amid a recent report that House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has called for a unity meeting with Treñas and Iloilo City District Rep. Julienne Baronda to reconcile both camps.

“The first consideration is always what is good for the city and the Ilonggo family. This is more important than power or political pragmatism,” he said in a statement.

He added that they are ready for any arrangement “as long as it is beneficial to our constituents and does not detract from the progress we have achieved.”

Treñas has yet to declare his complete slate for the 2025 midterm elections, but early reports indicate that they will be filing their certificates of candidacy on Oct. 8.

The mayor announced earlier he would field his daughter Raisa Treñas-Chu for the congressional seat against the incumbent Baronda.

He will also seek his last term as city mayor, with incumbent vice mayor Jeffrey Ganzon as his running mate.

On the other hand, there were reports that Baronda would pick former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for his mayoral candidate, who is yet to announce his political plans. (PNA)
