CEBU CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was granted the green light to put up more structures at the 5-hectare prime lot in the South Road Properties after the city government here approved its building permit, an official said on Thursday.

Acting Mayor Raymond Garcia said he instructed the Office of the Building Officials to issue the building permit shortly after meeting Tuesday with DPWH regional director Danilo Villa Jr.

Garcia said the agency has already submitted the new site development plan, a requirement before a building permit is granted.

“Under the usufruct agreement, DPWH agreed to submit a site development plan for the 5-hectare lot at the SRP. The development plan is a requirement to approve the building permit for additional structures of the DPWH-7,” Garcia told the Philippine News Agency.

He said the city government and the DPWH have agreed to discard the “open-ended” term of the usufruct into a 50-year contract.

Villa, for his part, said the agency is “trying its best also to improve the facilities that we need and trying to get the support from our bosses from the central office and other sources.

Based on the initial plan, the areas have not been developed yet.

“So, that’s why, I said, of the structure, is there anything more to be cleared with the city, considering that we already constructed many structures there,” he added.

Structures now standing at the DPWH compound are the regional field office, the flood control projects office, depot, and among others. (PNA)
