CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Northern Mindanao experienced a surge in the certificate of candidacy (COC) filings on Monday, just a day before the deadline, with all events remaining peaceful.

In Misamis Oriental, Governor Peter Unabia filed for reelection alongside Representatives Christian Unabia (1st District) and Yevgeny Vincente Emano (2nd District). Their lineup of aspiring board members also submitted their COCs.

In Misamis Occidental, mayors aligned with Governor Henry Oaminal Sr.'s party filed their candidacies as well.

In this city, 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan teamed up with former mayor and governor Oscar Moreno and 10 city council aspirants. Moreno is set to challenge incumbent Mayor Rolando Uy, who is seeking a second term but has not yet filed his COC with 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez.

Comelec-Northern Mindanao Director Renato Magbutay confirmed that no violent incidents were reported during the week-long COC filing.

"We are hopeful the same peaceful situation will continue until the final day of filing on Oct. 8," he said. (PNA)
