COTABATO CITY – Authorities have launched a manhunt for two suspects involved in the brazen daylight shooting of a Maguindanao Indigenous Peoples (IP) member on Monday.

Capt. Teofisto Ferrer Jr., chief of city police station 2, identified the victim as Jun Quimbo, 40, from Barangay Darugao, North Upi, Maguindanao del Norte.

Quimbo was with his wife and daughter in front of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, awaiting their tribal marriage certificate, when two men on a motorcycle opened fire.

“The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital,” Ferrer said, adding that police have recovered the suspects' getaway motorcycle along Pensacola Street and are reviewing secutity footage.

“We are awaiting a statement from the victim's wife to help shed light on the incident,” he added.

Timuay Leticia Datuwata, an IP leader, condemned the killing.

“Quimbo, an ordinary farmer, did not deserve such an attack,” she said.

Datuwata also lamented that Quimbo was the 76th IP member killed in Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur since 2018. (PNA)
