MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday condoled with the family of the executed Filipino in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a media interview before departing for Laos, Marcos said the government exhausted all possible legal remedies to appeal the decision of Saudi Arabia.

He also assured the bereaved family that the government will assist them in bringing back the remains of their loved one.

“That’s a terrible tragedy. Little we had left to do. We had very few options left. We tried everything and for many, many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. And we will… There is nothing that one can do to make it whole, but we will do our best,” he added.

“We’ll see what they need. But for someone who dies abroad, an OFW, there are many --- we have many procedures for that to bring them back home. So, I don’t think that will be a problem,” he went on.

A Filipino national was executed in the kingdom for the murder of a Saudi national on Oct. 5, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier said.

The DFA also did not identify the Filipino and is withholding other details about the case "out of deference to the wishes of the family.” (PNA)
