BAGUIO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this city reminded candidates of their oath to follow election regulations, including the period of campaigning to avoid incurring problems.

Citing Comelec guidelines, Baguio election officer lawyer John Paul Martin, in a media interview on Wednesday, said campaign period for the 2025 mid-term polls is from March 28 until May 10 for the local positions.

“Hindi pa po campaign period bawal pa po ang mangampanya (It is not yet the campaign period, campaigning is still prohibited),” he said.

Filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for next year’s polls was held from Oct. 1 to 8.

There are seven aspirants as Representative of the city’s Lone Congressional District, two of whom are former Representatives Mauricio Domogan and Nicasio Aliping.

The others are Soledad Go, the wife of the current lawmaker; Gladys Vergara, daughter of a former lawmaker; former councilor Popo Cosalan; and two new comers -- Frances Camtugan and Demoni Mauricio.

For mayor, the aspirants are incumbent Mayor Benjie Magalong, incumbent Lone District Representative Mark Go, former councilor Benny Bomogao and newcomers Camo Abdul, Rei Ann Cayetano and Mark Andrew Directo.

It is a one-on-one contest for the vice mayor post with incumbent Faustino Olowan and graduating councilor Mylen Yaranon.

Forty-three individuals filed COCs for the 12 seats for City Councilor. Of the total, 12 formerly served as councilors of Baguio while the other are newcomers. (PNA)
