PNP anti-drug unit seizes P13.7-B narcotics under Marcos admin

MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) on Wednesday said it has seized a total of PHP13.7 billion worth of narcotics since the start of the Marcos administration.

In a statement, PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said from July 1, 2022 to Oct. 7, 2024, some 1,674 anti-drug operations were conducted resulting in the arrest of 1,903 suspects.

These operations also led to the confiscation ofnkn the largest seizure of shabu totaling 1,717.61 kilograms worth PHP11.67 billion, 2.152.20 kg. of marijuana leaves and plants worth PHP1.83 billion and 48.7 kg. of ketamine worth PHP243.36 million.

Other drugs confiscated included 0.58 kg. of cocaine worth PHP3.07 million, 1,343 pieces of ecstasy tablets worth PHP2.28 million, and 1.96 kg. of kush marijuana worth PHP2.93 million.

Matta said the cumulative value of the drugs seized during the period solidified the PDEG's position as the leading unit of the PNP in drug seizures and the figures reflect the administration's firm stance on curbing illegal drug operations throughout the country.

"As we target high-value individuals and identify drug sources, we remain dedicated to preserving life. Our efforts ensure the well-being and dignity of every member of the community. This commitment to a balanced approach highlights the PNP’s dedication to safeguarding public safety while upholding human rights,” said Matta.

Matta commended the relentless dedication of PNP DEG personnel.

“As we pursue our anti-illegal drug campaign, our team works tirelessly to disrupt the networks that fuel this crisis. Every operation we undertake is a step toward a safer, drug-free community,” he said. (PNA)
