MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) field office in Cagayan Valley region on Wednesday continued the distribution of cash aid to areas severely hit by the Super Typhoon (ST) Julian in Batanes province.

DSWD Field Office-2 Regional Director Lucia Suyu-Alan personally led the handing of PHP10,000 each to some 1,000 beneficiaries in the municipality of Itbayat under the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS).

Suyu-Alan said the cash aid is fundamental to help the families in their recovery from the impact of the super typhoon.

“Ang pamamahagi ng cash assistance ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. at ng ating DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian na magbigay ng agarang tulong sa mga apektadong residente (The distribution of cash assistance is in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian to give immediate assistance to the affected residents),” Suyu-Alan said during the payout activity.

A similar payout was also held on October 8 to more than 4,000 beneficiaries in the municipality of Basco, marking the first leg of DSWD’s Batanes-wide cash distribution.

Suyu-Alan supervised the payout with Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco and Lone District Congressman Ciriaco Gato Jr. joining the activity.

She assured the locals that the Field Office will continue to reach out to Julian-hit families, as provincial-wide cash aid will cover the six municipalities of Batanes.

“Patuloy na binabantayan ng ahensya ang kalagayan ng mga residente sa Batanes upang masigurong maipapamahagi ang lahat ng kinakailangang tulong para sa kanilang tuluyang pagbangon mula sa epekto ng bagyo (The agency is continuously monitoring the residents Batanes to ensure the delivery of all possible assistance for their thorough recovery from the effects of the typhoon),” she said.
