UST eyes playoff berth in Shakey's volleyball

MANILA – University of Santo Tomas eyes a playoff seat when it battles University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championships at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Friday.

The Golden Tigresses, seeking a third win in Pool B, meet the Lady Altas at 6 p.m.

If UST wins, it will join University of the East (3-0) in the next round where teams will be divided into two groups for another round-robin play to determine their rankings in the quarterfinals.

The top two ranked squads from each pool after the round will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the crossover quarterfinals.

UST, runner-up in the last edition, defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University and Mapua University, while Perpetual lost to UE.

Meanwhile, National University seeks a share of the lead in Pool A against Emilio Aguinaldo College at 2 p.m.

NU, led by Erin Pangilinan and Vange Alinsug, beat Ateneo de Manila University for its first win, to take solo second behind Arellano University (2-0).

De La Salle University, on the other hand, faces Letran at 4 p.m. in Pool C.

The Green Spikers have a 1-0 record while the Lady Knights are tied for second with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons at 1-1. The Jose Rizal University Lady Altas has a 0-1 slate. (PNA)
