MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reset the Election Registration Board (ERB) hearings in the cities of Manila and Pasay on Oct. 14 and 15, due to Malacañang's suspension of government work in these areas.
“In view of the work suspension in government offices on Oct. 14 and 15, 2024 in the cities of Pasay and Manila by virtue of Memorandum Circular No. 66 dated 10 Oct. 2024 from the Office of the President, which are also the dates for the Election Registration Board (ERB) Hearing for the said localities, the said hearings are reset to the next working day, Oct. 16, 2024, Wednesday, pursuant to Sec. 5 of Resolution No. 10963,” it said in an advisory Friday.
The ERB hearings are conducted to approve or disapprove applications for voter registration and delist voters because of death, failure to vote in two succeeding regular elections, and other grounds provided by law.
It added that the list of registered voters for the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Parliamentary Elections will be updated once the nationwide ERB hearings end.
The Palace suspended classes at all levels and government work in the two cities in preparation for the country's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
It said the suspension of work in the private sector, however, is left to the discretion of employers. (PNA)
