More males seeking Negros Occidental local posts in 2025

BACOLOD CITY – Male aspirants dominate the number of candidates for local positions in Negros Occidental in the May 2025 elections, data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed Friday.

Of the 785 candidates across the province and in highly-urbanized Bacolod City, 615 or 78.34 percent, are males, while 168 (21.4 percent) are females.

At the provincial and district levels, all but two of 15 running for House of Representatives’ seats are males.

The two women in the congressional race are Housing assistant secretary Lea Delfino in the fourth district, and reelectionist 6th District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez.

For governor, all five candidates led by reelectionist Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson are males.

Among the 23 aspirants for provincial board members, 18 are males.

Meanwhile, of the 70 candidates running for mayor, 56 are males.

For vice mayor, there are 63 aspirants (50 males) while among the 607 candidates eyeing seats in the municipal and city councils, 473 are males while only 134 are females. (PNA)
