MANILA – No one would be spared from the investigation into the previous administration's war on drugs, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Monday.
The DILG chief said the Philippine National Police (PNP) had already undertaken initial steps on the matter.
“I think we have to wait until the full revelations are announced. I think pretty soon there will be corroborative testimonies that will abound,” Remulla told reporters after his first command conference in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Remulla expects that with more testimonies, cold cases will be opened.
“Let us wait until the final hearing and final recommendations of the (House of Representatives’) quadcom (quad committee) are done and then, subsequent actions will be taken,” he said.
Remulla emphasized though that all those included in the investigations are innocent until proven guilty.
Retired police colonel and former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office chief Royina Garma revealed in Friday’s quadcom hearing that former president Rodrigo Duterte approved of extrajudicial killings of drug suspects.
“We asked former (PNP) chiefs to give statements so that we know where we start in the investigation,” PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said.
Meanwhile, Remulla said he gave the PNP a general directive for the next three years: Improve capital outlay, response time and relations with local government units. (PNA)
