MANILA – As the Philippine Senate marked its 108th anniversary, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero reminded his colleagues that the Senate's role in nation-building is not static and continues to evolve, just as the challenges facing the country.

In his message on Wednesday, Escudero called on his fellow legislators and the people to hold faith, patriotism, and humanity at the center of their work, ensuring that the Senate remains a pillar of democracy and always striving to protect and uplift the Filipino people.

"Let this anniversary serve as a reminder of the Senate’s vital role in nation-building and as an inspiration for all Filipinos to actively participate in the democratic process," he said.

He also acknowledged past and present senators whose efforts had steered the nation towards inclusivity and development, as well as the Senate employees whose hard work often went unseen but whose contributions were essential to the smooth functioning of the legislative process.

"The Senate’s commitment to the principles of democracy, transparency, and accountability has remained steadfast. Its members, past and present, have carried the immense responsibility of representing the diverse voices of the Filipino people from all corners of the archipelago, ensuring that their aspirations and concerns are addressed through the legislative agenda," Escudero said.

The 108th anniversary, he said, is not only a time for celebration but also for introspection and an opportunity to reaffirm the values that the Senate stands for as a cornerstone of Philippine democracy.

With the theme “Maka-Diyos, Makabayan, Makatao,” Escudero urged Filipinos to remember the core values of democracy, transparency, and accountability, which have kept the Senate steadfast in its mission. (PNA)
