MANILA -- Philippine national basketball team coach Chot Reyes now has full control on which players he will bring to the Gilas Pilipinas pool, as the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) agreed to abolish the so-called "one-player rule".

In the said ruling, all the 12 teams are mandated to release one veteran and one member of the 2016 batch of the Gilas cadets to the national team pool with an option to lend more players.

But in the first resolution of Willie Marcial as the official commissioner of the league, Reyes can now choose as many players as he wants from a certain team.

Marcial, then the PBA officer-in-charge, hinted on Jan. 15 that the abolition of the "one-player rule" will be discussed in the PBA board of governors meeting on Thursday.

"Masaya naman tayo na hindi naman yun hinindian ng Board," Marcial said. "Talagang sila na ang nagsabi na kung sinong player ang gusto ni coach Chot, pag-usapan natin, basta't wala lang problema sa schedule ng games."

With the said development, Reyes can now form the "strongest" Gilas lineup possible especially with Australia coming up next in its FIBA World Cup Qualifiers schedule on Feb. 22 in Melbourne, Australia. (PNA)
