Negros moves closer to AFC Cup playoff spot

MANILA -- Ceres Negros blasted Boeung Ket, 4-0, to go to the cusp of making the AFC Cup playoffs at the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on Wednesday night.

Bienve Maranon's hat trick set the tone for Negros as the club maintained its lead in Group F and can officially clinch a spot in the ASEAN Zone semifinals with at least a draw against Home, 3-2 winner against Shan also on Wednesday night, in Bacolod on April 25.

Maranon drew first blood for Negros in the 36th minute, and it was his show from thereon as he added another just two minutes later before sealing the three-goal blast in the 69th minute.

Substitute Takumi Uesato scored the dagger goal for Negros in the 84th minute.

Negros is now on 13 points after five matches. (PNA)
