MANILA -- AirAsia Philippines is boosting its services between the Philippines and Taiwan, as it launches flights between Clark and Kaohsiung, and Cebu-Kaohsiung starting August 1.

"Kaohsiung is one of the biggest cities in Taiwan, and (it's) closer to the Philippines than Taipei," AirAsia Philippines chief executive officer, Dexter Comendador, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) over the weekend.

He added that there is a big Filipino community in Kaohsiung and they have long wanted direct flights to the Philippines.

At present, AirAsia Philippines is offering flights between Manila and Taipei, as well as the Manila-Kaohsiung route.

"We also have the Cebu-Taipei and Clark-Taipei services," he said.

Meanwhile, as a promotional offer, the carrier announced it would sell Cebu-Kaohsiung and Clark-Kaohsiung tickets for as low as PHP990.

Clark-Kaohsiung promotional fare is valid for booking until June 2, while Cebu-Kaohsiung promotional tickets are valid for booking from June 3-6.

Travel period for both routes is from Aug. 1 to Oct. 26.

The carrier, in a statement, said the new direct flights would help bring Cebuanos and Kapampangans closer to Taiwan. (PNA)
