CITY OF IMUS, Cavite -- Perpetual Junior Altas survived a late rally by De La Salle Zobel to emerge back-to-back champion of the Imus Volleyball League (IVL) inter-secondary invitational division at Imus Sports Center here on Saturday.
The five-peat champion of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) won the first two sets, 25-20, 25-18 but De La Salle rallied to take third set 25-20.
De La Salle, however, failed to sustain the rally as Dominique Gabito and Derick Germono spearheaded the Altas’ offense to finish the match in fourth set, 25-19.
Gabito emerged the most valuable player while Germono took the first best open award and their teammates Patrick Rosos and Von Marata were named best blocker and best opposite spiker, respectively. Gabito was also adjudged best setter.
On the other hand, Andre Espejo of DLS-Zobel cornered the 2nd best open award while teammate Leinuel Crisostomo brought home best libero plum.
“It was a great game, salute to DLS Zobel team for giving us a good game specially to coach Michael Carino,” Altas coach Sandy Rieta said.
“And to my team, congratulations to us for the championship trophy,” Rieta added.
Altas assistant coach Jason Sapin described the Imus tournament as big boost in their bid to win their sixth straight championship in the upcoming NCAA Season 95. (PNA)
