MANILA -- Denver "The Excitement" Cuello stopped Detnarong Omkrathok of Thailand in the second round to retain his Asia Boxing Federation (ABF) bantamweight title at the Barangay Vergara Covered Court in Mandaluyong City on Saturday evening.

It was Cuello’s fifth straight and 38th overall victory in 49 fights while his Thai opponent absorbed his 10th defeat in 13 matches.

Cuello, a 32-year-old fighter from Iloilo, won his belt via a technical knockout win against Indonesian Jack Amisa in Angono, Rizal on March 8, 2019.

Cuello and Omkrathok fought in an undercard of the “Showdown in Mandaluyong” where Indian-Filipino boxer Prabhjot Singh defeated Edsil Jungco of Iloilo via unanimous decision to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation middleweight title.

The 27-year old Singh from Bulacan unleashed barrage of punches that downed Jungco in the 8th round. It was Singh’s 8th win against four losses and one draw.

In another undercard clash, minimumweight Jonathan Almacen of Muntinlupa knocked out Benjie Bartolome of Benguet in the second round.

Meanwhile, Alvin Medura of Zamboanga Sibugay escaped a unanimous decision win over Japanese Mugicha Nakagawa to snatch the interim World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Continental super bantamweight at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City also on Saturday.

Medura posted his 9th victory against four defeats while handing Nakagawa his sixth loss in 32 fights.

Japanese Daisuke Sugita, meanwhile, avenged his compatriot’s defeat with a unanimous decision victory against Crison "Cowboy" Omayao of Valencia City, Bukidnon in the same boxing promotion by Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde Jr. of Elorde International Productions.

The 30-year old Sugita has now 5-1 ring record while Omayao suffered yet another defeat, his 20th in 49 fights. (PNA)
