Alfante to face Handig Oct. 12

DAVAO CITY -- Former WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental flyweight champion Cris Alfante of Zamboanga del Norte will face ex-International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific minimumweight title-holder Mateo “Waray Warrior” Handig of Northern Samar on Oct. 12 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.

The 27-year-old southpaw Alfante TKO'd Sulis Barrera of Indonesia in the 1st round last Aug. 3 in Parañaque.

He earlier retired Geboi Mansalayao of Davao in the 5th round last May 4 at the same venue. Alfante has 17 wins with nine knockouts against seven losses and a draw.

Handig, on the other hand, has 15 wins with nine knockouts against 19 defeats. He lost to Sirichai Thaiyen of Thailand in a unanimous decision for the vacant OPBF Silver super flyweight title last July 19.

He earlier won the vacant Luzon Professional Boxing Association super bantamweight title against Albert Alcoy of Makati City via a 2nd round knockout last Feb. 10, 2018.
