TACLOBAN CITY -- The city government here has urged local business owners to have their permit and license transactions processed before the deadline on January 31.

City treasurer Zosima Cordaño said on Thursday that non-renewal of permits within the deadline constitutes a 25-percent surcharge of the total amount due plus an additional 2 percent every month of delay until settlement.

On January 15, the city council here approved the amendatory ordinance extending the business renewal transactions without penalties, surcharges, and interest until the end of the month or an extension of two weeks.

“As of January 24, about PHP142 million local income have been collected, which is PHP10 million lower than the collection during the same period last year. This is probably because some local businesses have not yet renewed their business permit,” Cordaño said in an interview.

She urged business owners to process their business renewal before the deadline to avoid penalties and avail of the 20-percent discount on real property taxes.

Clients can process their permits at the “Business One-Stop-Shop” (BOSS) located at the ground level of the new city hall building where all offices in business renewal are accessible under one roof.

The renewal requirements include the 2020 barangay (village) clearance, business clearance, mayor's permit, business plate, valid identification card, and special power of attorney if a representative of the business owner will process the documents.

The Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD) said more than 7,000 permits are expected to be processed and renewed this year.

As of January 27, the BPLD has released a total of 2,738 permits at the BOSS. The BOSS is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. (PNA)
