MANILA – AirAsia Philippines on Friday provided guests with an option to choose contactless check-in as the carrier resumed domestic services.

During the Laging Handa briefing, AirAsia Philippines head of communications, David de Castro, said the carrier already mounted flights between Manila and Cagayan de Oro on Friday.

As the carrier eyes a gradual resumption of flights in its key domestic routes, de Castro said they are hopeful to be able to fly to Cebu, Davao, and Puerto Princesa in the coming days.

He noted that health and safety measures are in place.

"We upgraded our check-in processes. Guests may check-in online first, and they would receive a QR code. Upon arriving at the airport, they may simply scan this QR code in our self check-in kiosks. No need to touch the screen. The boarding pass and luggage tag would automatically print after scanning their QR code,” de Castro said.

He confirmed to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that guests may still opt to check in the usual way via the check-in counters.

With the help of airport authorities, safety measures are still in place during pre-flight.

Temperature screening and social distancing are being implemented, he said.

De Castro added that social distancing is also implemented even as guests disembark the aircraft.

"Deep cleaning is being done after the aircraft finishes its routes," he said.

Meanwhile, de Castro said guests must also check with the local government units (LGUs) regarding rules.

"Essential travel like business trips are allowed," he said, adding that passengers should also keep in mind that every LGU has its own rules or guidelines. (PNA
