MANILA – Toyota Motors Philippines Corp. (TMP), through the Department of Health (DOH), is donating 30 units of Toyota Vios to public hospitals that will be used for the mobility of health workers.

In a statement Friday, TMP and DOH signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the carmaker’s donation of vehicles to public hospitals in Metro Manila and Laguna.

Two Vios units were already delivered to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, San Lorenzo Hospital, and San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital during the signing ceremony.

TMP will complete the turnover of the vehicles to identified public hospitals next month.

“Toyota salutes all healthcare workers in the country - the brave heroes who continue to work relentlessly to care for the sick and preserve life,” TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto said. “Please accept Toyota’s humble contribution of providing mobility services through our proudly Philippine-made and ever-dependable Toyota Vios.”

As the government implemented quarantine measures to slow down the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), it suspended public transportation that also challenged the movement of health workers in going to their duties.

TMP, in partnership with Toyota Mobility Foundation, has already provided 10 shuttles to Philippine General Hospital. The new shuttles are compliant to the guidelines of the government for the ‘new normal’ in public transportation.

“As a strong partner for nation-building, we are committed to heed the call of Filipinos as they begin to rebuild their lives. We need to help them get back to work every day. We have to make sure that we can take them to the hospital when they need care. We must ensure that essential workers can transport themselves to their workplaces to care for our loved ones,” TMP Chair Alfred Ty said. (PNA
