BUTUAN CITY – Thirteen former New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, undergoing carpentry training, each received their PHP1,600 allowance in a distribution activity held in Surigao City on Monday.
The allowances are intended to procure the needed carpentry tools to help the former rebels complete the training facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Surigao del Norte (TESDA-SDN), the Army's 30th Infantry Battalion (30IB) said in a statement Tuesday.
“The skills and knowledge they will gain from the carpentry training will help them secure decent jobs and sources of income, as they start to rebuild their lives,” it added.
The surrenderers, who are being enrolled in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, turned themselves in late last year and some in early 2023.
They decided to abandon the communist movement to change their lives and be with their families and communities, the 30IB said. (PNA)
