CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The City Reclamation Authority has partnered with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in conducting a technical study on the realignment of some coastal areas as part of the city government's reclamation project.

Ramil Balquin, city planning and development office chief, said in an interview Wednesday that an initial 20 hectares along the ongoing coastal highway project will be allocated for the project set to begin later this year.

"They (DPWH) will conduct a technical and detailed engineering study from the previous proposal, to the new request of the local government unit (LGU)," he said.

Balquin said the LGU's coastal realignment request covers major parts of Barangays Cugman and Gusa.

"The LGU proposes to realign the reclamation seaward, which requires a huge investment," he said.

In February this year, Mayor Rolando Uy and the DPWH-Northern Mindanao (Region 10) also presented a plan for the Amphitheater and Multi-Level Car Park Project as part of the PH50-million redevelopment plan dubbed "Project Lunhaw."

DPWH-10 engineer Gerald Courvoisier Fortaleza said they plan on completing the amphitheater and multi-level car park project early next year.

The renovation of the amphitheater in the Plaza Divisoria of the city aims to transform the remaining open spaces along the city hall's riverside and downstream areas into modern recreational areas. (PNA)
