LAOAG CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment has released an additional PHP20 million for the continuing implementation of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating mga Displaced/Disadvantage (TUPAD) workers in various parts of the province of Ilocos Norte.

Anne Marie Lizette Atman, manager of the Provincial Employment and Service Office, confirmed this on Wednesday as they are now preparing their work plan and enlisting interested beneficiaries.

“As of the moment, we are now conducting profiling of the selected beneficiaries for the initial implementation of PHP10 million TUPAD program,” said Atuan in an interview, adding that the selected beneficiaries will be tasked to help clean up clogged waterways to prevent flooding in time for the rainy season.

Atuan added that they will also be deployed "to help in the province’s reforestation program by participating in tree planting activities as well as in fire prevention activities."

Almost 2,000 marginalized workers are expected to benefit from the latest funding release for TUPAD in the province to benefit the 21 towns and 2 cities of Ilocos Norte.

Under the TUPAD program, each beneficiary has to render community service for at least four hours a day for 15 days to receive a PHP6,000 salary.

The DOLE said it has already released over PHP450 million, benefiting unemployed, displaced, or seasonal workers aged 18 and above since the start of the TUPAD program in the province.

Based on the guidelines, an individual who has no permanent employment and is not an appointee of the barangay, municipal or provincial officials can avail of the TUPAD program once a year. (PNA)
