BUTUAN CITY – Surigao City and the towns of San Francisco and Sison, all component areas of Surigao del Norte province, signed an agreement Wednesday to bolster disaster resilience and foster effective coordination during disasters and calamities.

Among the signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) were Surigao City Mayor Paul Yves Dumlao, San Francisco Municipal Mayor Val Pinat, and Sison Municipal Vice Mayor William Avila.

“The signing of the MOU aims to solidify the partnership of the three LGUs in Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) initiatives,” the Surigao City government said in a statement Thursday.

Through the MOU, it added that clear terms and conditions are established for the LGUs to collaborate as DRRM partners.

“The partnership will further enhance the collective efforts of the three LGUs in mitigating and managing the potential risks and disasters,” it added.

The MOU signing was witnessed by the LGUs’ respective disaster and risk reduction council members and different government line agencies involved in disaster response operations.

The three LGUs are among Surigao del Norte’s affected areas during typhoons due to flood and landslide-prone areas in its localities.

“This strategic partnership marks a crucial step forward in bolstering disaster resilience and fostering effective coordination among the three LGUs in the face of potential hazards,” the Surigao City local government said. (PNA)
