Cops intercept 8K liters of smuggled fuel in Siargao

BUTUAN CITY – Police seized 8,060 liters of smuggled petroleum in a pre-dawn operation in Del Carmen town, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province on Friday.

Col. Nilo Texon, officer in charge of the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDNPPO), said personnel of the Del Carmen Municipal Police Station, along with partner agencies, acted on a report of illegal fuel delivery at about 2:25 a.m.

Authorities intercepted a fuel truck (CAM-5297) carrying 31 containers of petroleum valued at PHP322,000.

Three suspects, two from Socorro town and one from Del Carmen, were arrested after failing to present proper documents, including authorization from the Bureau of Energy Utilization Office.

Texon vowed continued vigilance against such activities.

The suspects face charges under Presidential Decree 1865, which penalizes unlawful acts involving petroleum products. (PNA)
