BUTUAN CITY – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Dinagat Islands has warned residents of the possible effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon caused by Tropical Storm Egay.

The PDRRMC, under the supervision of Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., issued an advisory on Saturday noon to its residents to be vigilant for possible landslides and coastal flooding due to the weather disturbance.

Egay, as of 5 a.m. on Saturday, was estimated at 815 km. east of southeastern Luzon and was forecast to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring strong winds and big waves to the province of Dinagat Islands.

In its advisory, the PDRRMC enjoined all municipal and barangay DRRMCs to intensify the information dissemination efforts to inform residents of the approaching threats of Egay.

“The information drives must reach fisherfolk communities, local and tourist travelers, businesses, and residences in their respective areas of responsibility, using all available platforms,” the PDRRMC said.

It also advised the local councils to conduct assessments on areas that would be affected by the weather disturbance and to closely monitor areas that are susceptible to strong winds.

“Let us observe heightened alert and closely monitor the track of TS Egay over our respective areas of responsibility and to conduct response preparedness and execute measures to ensure zero-casualty status,” the PDRRMC said.

Coastal security patrols by the Philippine National Police, the reservists of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the various disaster response groups have been ordered, as well as the preposition of emergency boats of 50 gross tonnages if search and rescue is deemed necessary.

“All trained medical responders, government response agencies, and rescue volunteer groups shall be on standby and observe protocols,” the PDRRMC said.

All citizens in Dinagat Islands have been advised to take appropriate precautionary actions to ensure the safety and food sufficiency of family members. (PNA)
