DUMAGUETE CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental will distribute close to PHP1 million worth of livelihood kits to Typhoon Odette victims and launch a Negosyo Center in Ayungon town this coming Thursday.

DTI-Negros Oriental provincial director Nimfa Virtucio said Monday that the move forms part of the agency’s efforts to support micro small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.

“A total of 126 beneficiaries will receive PHP7,500 each in livelihood assistance under the DTI’s Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program to assist microenterprises affected by calamities,” Virtucio said.

Most of the livelihood aid comprises “sari-sari” (neighborhood sundry) store kits.
The beneficiaries were earlier profiled after Typhoon Odette hit many parts of the country ton Dec. 16, 2021.
The DTI in Negros Oriental in November last year released more than PHP2.5 million in livelihood kits to Typhoon Odette victims in the province following the receipt of additional funds from its regional office.

This year, the DTI received more than PHP1 million in continuing funds for the program, Virtucio added.

Meanwhile, a Negosyo Center will also be launched in Ayungon on the same day, a collaboration of the DTI-Negros Oriental and the Ayungon town government.

This is the 17th Negosyo Center to be established in the province, and the first after five years since the last one was established, Virtucio said. (PNA)
