MANILA – De La Salle University banked on skipper John Mark Ronquillo's brilliant game to pull off a 26-28, 25-18, 28-26, 25-21 win over the University of Santo Tomas in the V-League Collegiate Challenge men's division at the Paco Arena in Manila on Friday.
Ronquillo finished with 23 attacks and four blocks while middle blocker Joshua Jamiel Rodriguez chipped in 12 points, including four blocks and three service aces as the Green Spikers claimed victory after one hour and 54 minutes.
Noel Michael Kampton and Vince Gerard Maglinao also contributed eight points each while Uriel Mendoza made six points.
"As I mentioned to them earlier, the trust that the coaches have bestowed upon them, that's what they should bring to the court," coach Jose Roque said after the match.
UST team captain Rainier Flor had nine attacks, three blocks and one service ace while opposite hitter Rey Miguel De Vega added 10 points, eight on attacks.
Sherwin Umandal came up with nine points and UAAP Season 85 MVP Josh Ybañez scored seven points despite playing only in the first two sets. (PNA)
