DPWH: Some NCR roads submerged in floods due to heavy rains

MANILA – Seven roads in Metro Manila were submerged in floods due to heavy rains from the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Goring, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Thursday.

Based on the report of the Bureau of Maintenance (BOM) as of Thursday noon, the roads that are not passable to all types of vehicles are G. Araneta Avenue corner Maria Clara Street and Sto. Domingo corner Calamba streets in Quezon City.

On the other hand, several roads in Manila and in Quezon City are also flooded and only passable to heavy vehicles.

These are: Blumentritt Street, Sampaloc; Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard, Pureza – Hippodromo and V. Mapa to SM Sta. Mesa; Tayuman Street corner Jose Abad Santos Avenue; J. P. Rizal Avenue corner Claro M. Recto Avenue and Mel Lopez Boulevard corner C-2 and Moriones Street all in Manila.

The two roads in Quezon City that are only passable to heavy vehicles are G. Araneta Avenue near E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue and Elliptical Road near Quezon Avenue.

Meanwhile, the DPWH also reported that six roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Region 1 are still impassable.

These roads are Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road in Barangay Ferdinand, Calanasan, Apayao due to landslide; Abra – Kalinga Road, Subagan, Licuan-Baay (Licuan), Abra due to landslide; Kennon Road in Camp One, Tuba, Benguet as a precautionary measure.

Also impassable are the Dantay Sagada Road in Barangay Antadao, Sagada, Mountain Province due to roadcut/collapsed pavement; Baguio-Bontoc Road, Barangay Sinto, Bauko, Mt.Province due to roadcut/collapsed pavement, rock/slope collapse and Roxas Bridge, Vigan-San Vicente Road, Ilocos Sur due to scoured bridge abutment.

The DPWH-BOM also identified several roads in Mountain Province, Ilocos Sur and Batangas with limited access.

The Junction Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road in Barangay Sta. Isabel, Natonin, Mountain Province, one lane passable to light vehicles only due to soil collapse; Vigan Bridge 1 and 2 along Bantay-Vigan Road in Barangay 1, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, one lane passable to light vehicles only due to damaged abutment protection and bridge approach and Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road, Barangay Putting Kahoy, Lian, Batangas, one lane passable to light vehicles only due to scoured shoulder and roadcut/collapsed pavement.
