Lyceum notches first win in V-League Women's Collegiate Challenge

MANILA – Lyceum outplayed Enderun College in the deciding fifth set to notch its first victory in the 2023 V-League Women's Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila on Friday.

Opposite hitter Janeth Tulang had 18 points and four blocks as the Lady Pirates triumphed, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14, and improved to 1-5.

"Sabi ko sa kanila i-maximize namin ‘yung strength namin, ‘yung advantage namin sa kalaban and minimize lang ‘yung errors kasi sobrang dami talaga (I told them we must maximize our strength, our advantage over the opponent, and just minimize the errors because there are really too many)," said Lyceum head coach Cromwel Garcia.

The Lady Titans leveled on the 31-minute fourth set, banking on outside hitters Erika Jin Deloria and Althea Virnyce Botor.

Johna Denise Dolorito and Joan Doguna, also outside hitters, delivered the crucial points as the Lady Pirates wrapped up the match after two hours and 21 minutes.

Dolorito made 20 points, 15 digs, and nine receptions. Doguna contributed 17 points.

Enderun, which absorbed its fourth loss in five outings, got 22 points from Deloria, who also had nine digs.

Botor added 21 points, including 17 attacks and two service aces; spiker Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo had four blocks, four service aces and 12 excellent sets; and libero Mikaela Ramirez made 15 receptions and 14 digs. (PNA)
