BUTUAN CITY – At least five high-impact road projects are listed as priorities of the Department of Public Work and Highways in the Caraga Region (DPWH-13) for this year, an official said Thursday.

In an interview, DPWH-13 Regional Director Pol Delos Santos said the road projects have a total length of 418.963 kilometers and a total budget of PHP64.311 billion.

The projects include the Daang Maharlika Road from Barangay Lipata in Surigao City to Davao Region; the Butuan City-Agusan del Norte Logistical Highway; the completion of the East-West Lateral Road connecting Agusan del Sur to Bukidnon; the Surigao del Norte-Agusan del Norte West Coastal Road; and the Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte-Lanuza, Surigao del Sur Road.

“All these projects have been bid out to qualified contractors, as the initial funding for this year was already released. Construction works are already ongoing,” Delos Santos said.

The projects, involving concreting, widening, repair, and rehabilitation works, are multi-year projects that have already been funded with PHP13.3 billion as of this year, the DPWH-13 official said.

“These road projects are the game changers in Caraga Region’s peace and economic stability by way of increasing traffic capacities, access to public facilities, and basic services, among others,” Delos Santos said.

He added that the projects will also encourage farmers in the region to till more farmlands and promote development in agriculture, industry, and domestic trade. (PNA)
