MANILA – The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has increased the fuel surcharge from Level 6 to 7 for November.

The CAB has been implementing a Level 6 fuel surcharge since September. Under Level 6, the fuel surcharge ranges from PHP185 to PHP665 for domestic flights and PHP610.37 to PHP4,538.40 for international flights.

In an advisory dated Oct. 16, the CAB said airlines that want to impose or collect fuel surcharge for November must file their application with the office of the executive director on or before the effective period.

The applicable conversion rate is PHP56.77 to USD1, the CAB said.

Commenting on the announcement, AirAsia Philippines on Thursday announced that under Level 7, the low-cost carrier's fuel surcharge for domestic flights would be from PHP219 to PHP689, and for international flights PHP772.71 to PHP1,124.26, depending on the distance.

In a statement, AirAsia said to cushion the impact of the increased fuel surcharge, it would continue to offer its monthly double-digit sale and has extended its "peso sale" until Oct. 25.

It also advised passengers to book their tickets in advance due to anticipated adjustments in ticket prices brought about by the volatility of global fuel prices.

Additional savings on travel can also be obtained by availing of value deals on its mobile app. (PNA)
