CEBU CITY – A driver of an SUV who figured in a hit-and-run incident involving a call center agent in the uptown village of Lahug is facing suspension or revocation of his driver’s license, a transport official said on Wednesday.
Glen Galario, director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 (Central Visayas), said a show cause order was released on Wednesday, directing the driver of Isuzu Mu-X with plate number GAB 1021 to appear before the operations division to explain the incident that happened on Nov. 12 and became viral on social media.
Galario said the incident was posted on social media by a netizen who was able to take a video of the vehicle reportedly driven by William Holan Fernando Baxter, a resident of Cabancalan, Mandaue City.
The video showed Baxter’s vehicle counterflowing the busy lanes of Gorordo Avenue and hitting a 22-year-old call center agent, who was crossing the pedestrian lane.
“The reported act is a violation of Section 27 on improper person to operate a motor vehicle and Section 48 on reckless driving under Republic Act 4136, otherwise known as the Land Transportation Code,” Galario said in the order.
The driver was also directed to surrender his driver’s license.
Both the driver and the call center agent settled the matter as the latter only suffered minor injuries.
But Galario said his office still directed the driver to appear on Nov. 21 to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or canceled due to the incident. (PNA)
