MANILA – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III on Monday said violence has no place in a civilized society, particularly in an institution of higher learning.

This was after the bombing incident at the Dimaporo gymnasium in Mindanao State University (MSU) - Marawi campus during a conduct of a Catholic mass on Sunday.

De Vera said CHED condemns such act of violence.

"As Chairman of the MSU Board of Regents, I will ensure that the university policies will be reviewed to make sure safety and security measures are added so that this horrific event will not be repeated," he said in a statement.

De Vera urged the board of other higher education institutions to do the same.

"We will work with the MSU president and officials in providing necessary counselling and support to the affected individuals, particularly the staff and the students of the university," he said.

De Vera also called on the public to pray for the victims, their families and the MSU community as the government authorities provide assistance and ensure security and protection for all. (PNA)
