CEBU CITY – A former convict was arrested at midnight Friday in Mandaue City after yielding PHP6.8 million worth of suspected shabu.

Police seized from Sydney Tanggarorang, 54, an ex-convict of several offenses and who is also on the drug watchlist of the Philippine National Police in Central Visayas, over a kilo of suspected shabu during a buy-bust in Barangay Mantuyong.

Operatives of the intelligence unit of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) reportedly placed Tanggarorang under surveillance following reports that he could dispose of as much as 500 grams of shabu in a week to his contacts in Mantuyong and Paknaan villages in Mandaue.

Tanggarorang was jailed in 1984 for highway robbery and released in 1991. He was jailed anew in 1994 for illegal possession of firearms and was freed in 2002.

In 2010, he was again arrested for homicide and was released last year.

The suspect is now facing drug charges while in detention at the MCPO holding cell. (PNA)
