LAOAG CITY – A PHP20-million farm-to-market road (FMR) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte will benefit rural households of Camandingan and Baoa East that depend on farming as a major source of livelihood.

"The condition of farm-to-market is a perennial problem, especially during the rainy season,” Noli Lacambra, village chief of Camandingan in Batac City, said following the provincial board's endorsement of the project on Monday.

Located around 11 kilometers from the city proper, the project will allow farmers to save on transportation costs and enable them to reach markets quickly and efficiently.

Aside from Camandingan, the adjacent village of Baoa East and other nearby villages and towns will also benefit from the project as they can use this alternate route.

The improved road can also give residents better access to community centers, schools, and medical facilities.

Funded under the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Local Government Support Fund–Other Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGUs), the about three-kilometer farm-to-market road project  is targeted to be constructed and completed this year.

The project forms part of the national government’s more than PHP14 billion allotment this year for financial assistance to LGUs nationwide, which includes the construction, restoration, and improvement of infrastructure facilities, including farm-to-market roads, slaughterhouses, small water impounding projects, fish ports and water supply systems.
