BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) is continuously helping hog raisers recover from the brunt of African swine fever (ASF) via a PHP5.5 million support package.

DA-13 handed over the aid package to the Tigao Farmers Development Cooperative (TFDC) in Cortes, Surigao del Sur, through the agency’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program on Tuesday.

In a statement Wednesday, Jekem Sanchez of DA-13 said the aid involves putting up a bio-secured swine facility and acquiring 75 piglets, feeds, biologics support, and disinfectants.

“As a chosen beneficiary of this project under INSPIRE, you must work hand in hand in the project's development, success, and sustainability,” Jakem, who represented DA-13 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen during the turnover, told the beneficiaries.

Cortes town was among those affected by ASF during the 2020 outbreak in the region, particularly Barangay Matho.

Meanwhile, TFDC chairperson Gerson Pagara said the project will allow the cooperative members to recover from the effects of ASF.

“We are thankful to the government for this project as this will help us repopulate our stocks and revive our hog-raising project,” he said. (PNA)
