MANILA – Low-cost airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Friday advised its passengers of possible delays as it is experiencing technical issues reportedly due to a global Microsoft system outage.

In an advisory posted on its Facebook page past 3 p.m., the CEB said it is experiencing technical issues "reportedly related to technology provider CrowdStrike, which caused a global Microsoft system outage."

This resulted in handling affected processes manually, potentially causing delays, the Gokongwei-led carrier said.

"We are working closely with our teams to mitigate disruptions to our operations and will provide regular updates as the situation progresses," it added.

Other aviation stakeholders also reported the effect of the information technology systems issue in their operations.

Changi Airport in Singapore posted Friday that some airlines have been processing the check-in procedures manually.

Sydney Airport in Australia also advised of possible delays through the evening due to the technical issue's impact on some airline operations.

According to reports, technology giant Microsoft experienced technical issues late Thursday, and reported that cloud services have been restored Friday.

PH banks

On Friday, Philippine banks also announced the unavailability of some services due to the ongoing global IT outage.

In separate advisories posted on Facebook, Metrobank, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Unionbank, and Philippine National Bank (PNB) said customers may experience a slowdown or temporary unavailability of some bank products and services through their online channels.

UnionBank said its Customer Service Hotline, some branch services, and online card transactions are temporarily unavailable.

"In the meantime, please use the UnionBank Online app or website or any of our ATMs nationwide, for continued access to your accounts and essential banking services," UnionBank said.

BPI, meanwhile, announced that the global issue has impacted certain operations of the bank, which may cause longer wait times in their branches and contact centers.

"You may also experience delays in crediting of financial transactions, including bills payment and interbank fund transfers, as other institutions are likewise affected. Our technical team is already coordinating closely with the provider on the resolution of this issue," it said.

BPI, however, assured that the issue should not be a cause for concern, adding that ATMs, as well as online and mobile banking services, remain available.

In a separate post, Metrobank said clients could continue to access their funds through the bank’s ATMs or deposit funds through Cash Accept Machines.

"Our branch personnel are ready to assist or you may reach us through our hotline: 88-700-700," it said.

PNB said its technical team is on standby to ensure that affected channels return to normal once the outage is fixed. (PNA)
