47 NAIA flights canceled Saturday due to global IT glitch

MANILA – The Microsoft system outage that has been disrupting operations of some airlines led to the cancelation of 47 flights via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Saturday.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced Friday it was experiencing system downtime and would have to resort to manual passenger check-in procedures. It advised passengers of possible delays.

Affected passengers could avail of free rebooking, refund their tickets, or store the amount in a virtual CEB wallet.

According to reports, tech giant Microsoft experienced technical issues late Thursday and reported that cloud services were restored on Friday.

Meanwhile, as the IT outage affected airline operations globally, congestion was reported at NAIA and Davao International Airport and delays at Bicol International Airport.

The Manila International Airport Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said they have augmented manpower to manage the queues. (PNA)
