CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Northern Mindanao (BJMP-10) bared on Tuesday that the number of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in the region has reached 5,996.

In a media briefing, Jail Chief Superintendent Cesar Langawin, the BJMP-10 director, said the figures were based on the latest record as of July 18.

While PDLs are housed within the BJMP dormitories, Langawin said they have established programs for livelihood and skills training, reintegration, and employment support.

When asked about the number of overstaying PDL inside jail facilities, Langawin emphasized the absence of overstaying PDL in BJMP-10 facilities attributing such accomplishment to the Jail Paralegal Officers.

He said this is why BJMP-10 maximizes its paralegal officers to expedite the papers of those PDL who have completed serving their sentences.

"Upon identifying PDL who are qualified for release, our paralegal officers immediately coordinate with courts for their immediate release," Langawin said. (PNA)
