Gov't aid for victims of bad weather effects top P531-M

MANILA – The government has so far provided some PHP531.6 million worth of various assistance to families displaced by the effects of the southwest monsoon and Typhoons Butchoy and Carina, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

The amount mainly includes food and non-food assistance, according to the disaster response body's latest situation report.

Families requiring assistance are placed at 1,022,678 in Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, National Capital Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

"Due to the undetermined number of families requiring assistance in some regions, the total number of families and the corresponding percentage are yet to be determined," the NDRRMC added.

The death toll remained at 48, of which 14 have already been confirmed.

The NDRRMC said damage to agriculture and infrastructure from the effects of bad weather is placed at PHP2.03 billion and PHP4.34 billion, respectively. (PNA)
