MANILA – Capital1 import Marina Tushova was named Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for the second week in a row following another record-breaking performance against Nxled in Pool D of the Reinforced Conference.

The 6-foot Russian spiker produced 49 points in leading the Solar Spikers to a 20-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-6 victory at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Saturday.

On Aug.1, she posted an all-time league record of 45 points when Capital1 beat Choco Mucho, 13-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13, surpassing Akari’s Dominican import Prisilla Rivera’s 44 in 2022.

“It means a lot. It means that I’m improving,” the 25-year-old Tushova said.

Tushova was unanimously chosen by reporters from print and online news outlets, besting Akari pair Oly Okaro and Grethcel Soltones, Petro Gazz’s Wilma Salas, PLDT’s Lena Samoilenko, Creamline’s Bernadeth Pons, and Chery Tiggo’s Ara Galang.

She said she is thankful Capital1 found her after an invitation a few years ago did not materialize.

"I was really looking for a team here. It’s a great experience. I love to see people. I want to meet new people. This [kind of experience] you can’t learn [it] every day. It’s so good,” Tushova, who scored 32 points against ZUS Coffee on Tuesday, said.

Head coach Roger Gorayeb was likewise happy with her performance.

“As I’ve said before, I would rather see Marina on our side than play against her. She’s always there to play no matter what. That’s how professional players should be. And she’s very professional. She knows the team needs her, that’s why whatever happens she plays,” s
Gorayeb said.

Capital1, on a three-game roll at 4-2, will face Farm Fresh on Thursday. (PNA)
