CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Northern Mindanao's state-run University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is strengthening its internationalization mechanisms to become globally competitive.

During the pre-anniversary launch Wednesday, USTP system president Dr. Ambrosio Cultura II said the institution is affirming the trend in Philippine higher education toward being responsive to global industries.

"Internationalization means partnering with foreign institutions to bridge opportunities for the students, faculty, and staff," he said.

Cultura said the USTP campuses have collaborated with regional industries and other government agencies to develop and promote innovations that helped create local products.

He said that with partners under internationalization agreements, these products and research outputs can be introduced to a global market, which may improve the regional industry's economy.

"And through it, we can also gain additional learning and training from our international partners," Cultura said.

The USTP system is celebrating its 8th Charter Day this year since the law was passed to merge this city's Mindanao University of Science and Technology and the Misamis Occidental State College of Agriculture and Technology in Misamis Oriental province. (PNA)
