AFP chief hails outgoing Spain defense attaché for enhancing ties

MANILA – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief, Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., on Wednesday afternoon hailed the outgoing defense attaché of Spain for his efforts in further beefing up the defense and military relationships between the two nations.

Brawner awarded Col. Javier Martin Gil with the AFP Commendation Medal and Ribbon "in recognition of his dedicated service and contributions to strengthening the defense relations between Spain and the Philippines" on Aug. 14 during a courtesy call.

"The commendation was a testament to Colonel Gil's efforts in fostering military cooperation and enhancing bilateral defense engagements between the two nations," the AFP said in a statement Wednesday.

Gil officially began his tenure as Spain's defense attaché on Aug. 1, 2021.

During the meeting, Brawner expressed his gratitude to Gil for his exemplary work.

In the same courtesy call, Brawner also welcomed incoming defense attaché, Col. Santiago Martin Sanz, expressing optimism for continued collaboration and strengthened defense ties.
