TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is stepping up its awareness drive on the Vape Law meant to prevent minors from accessing vapor products, particularly through online channels.

The DTI regional office here on Thursday gathered local government officials, representatives from the national government agencies, police personnel, and state university and college officials to discuss the implementation of the law.

Lawyer Ricci Torio, head of the DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB), said they have been visiting provinces to discuss the provisions of the law that was enacted in 2022.

Eastern Visayas is the first area outside Metro Manila visited by DTI-FTEB for its orientation on the Vape Law, as requested by the DTI regional office here.

“This is to raise awareness since not all are familiar with the provisions of the law. We want to let our local officials and partner agencies know the impact of selling vape to minors,” Torio told reporters.

Republic Act 11900, also known as the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act, mandates measures to prevent minors from accessing vapor products, particularly through online channels.

The suspension also aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting a healthy environment and protecting citizens from potential hazards associated with these products.

The law prohibits the sale and promotion of vape products within 100 meters of activity areas frequented by minors, such as schools.

The DTI has primary jurisdiction in enforcing the Vape Law. (PNA)
