DUMAGUETE CITY – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) in Negros Oriental on Tuesday called for enhanced collaboration among police stations, local government units (LGUs), and the community to combat criminality.

Lawyer Jose Comon, Napolcom provincial chief, said during a Kapihan forum marking Crime Prevention Month that the Philippine National Police (PNP) currently operates with a ratio of one police officer for every 1,000 individuals.

Comon underscored the importance of involving all sectors, including the youth, in crime prevention efforts.

“The youth plays a crucial role in the peace and security of every country,” he said, aligning with this year’s theme: “Kabataan tara na, sa Crime Prevention kaisa ka.”

He said effective crime prevention and resolution requires strong collaboration and that police alone cannot achieve these goals.

Napolcom is inspecting police stations in Negros Oriental to ensure the implementation of the Community Service-Oriented Policing (CSOP) program. This includes establishing memorandums of agreement (MOAs) with LGUs, police chiefs, and communities to ensure sustainability.

Comon clarified that while Napolcom is a policymaking body and does not interfere with police operations, it conducts regular audits to ensure adherence to policies. (PNA)
