CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The provincial government of Bukidnon has declared a "state of calamity" due to the alarming rise in dengue cases.
On Friday, copies of Provincial Board (PB) Resolution 2024-4109 were circulated to local government units, highlighting the need to intensify public health responses across the province.
The resolution was based on findings from the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit’s Dengue Outbreak Investigation Report, which revealed that the province had exceeded its five-year epidemic threshold between January and July, particularly from weeks 4 to 31.
Dr. Jose Rhoel de Leon, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) sector overseer, advised the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures.
"Data showed that dengue cases are always there, and several increases have been noted yearly," De Leon said.
As of August, the PHO recorded over 5,000 dengue cases, resulting in 36 deaths.
The PB resolution was passed following recommendations from both the PHO and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
De Leon added that technical experts have been brought in to develop more effective strategies to address the surge in cases. (PNA)
